WebP is Google's image format, released in 2010 and adopted across the web since 2020. Many sites now serve WebP by default in 2024 and 2025 because the format compresses better than JPG and PNG at the same visual quality. Save an image from Chrome and it often arrives as WebP. Export from Figma or other design tools and you sometimes get WebP. Screenshots from some Linux distributions are WebP.
The problem with WebP is that not every reader supports it. PDF readers in particular do not all render WebP correctly. So when a stack of WebP images needs to go into a PDF, the format has to be converted along the way. This tool does that quietly in the background.
PDF readers vary in their handling of newer image formats. Adobe Acrobat, Preview on macOS, the Chrome PDF viewer, and various mobile readers all render embedded images differently. To make sure your PDF looks the same everywhere, the tool decodes each WebP into a bitmap, draws it onto a canvas with a white background, encodes the canvas as JPEG at quality 0.92, and embeds the JPEG into the page.
The quality 0.92 setting is visually lossless for nearly all images. The resulting PDF opens correctly in every reader and prints cleanly.
Fit to image is the right pick when the PDF will be viewed on screen. Each page is sized exactly to the WebP, with no margin. The file stays small.
A4 (210 by 297 mm) is the page size used outside the United States. The image is centered with a small uniform margin and the page rotates between portrait and landscape based on aspect.
Letter (8.5 by 11 inches) is the United States and Canada standard. Same centering and auto-rotation rules as A4.
Because WebP is more efficient than JPG at the same quality, a typical WebP file is 20 to 40 percent smaller than the equivalent JPG. After conversion, your PDF will be larger than the original WebP folder. That is expected. If the result is too large to email, our Compress PDF tool will shrink it without leaving the browser.
Every byte of work happens on your device. The WebP bytes are decoded in memory by the browser, drawn into a hidden canvas, re-encoded as JPEG, and assembled into a PDF using a JavaScript library that ships with the page. No part of any image is sent over the network. You can confirm this in your browser by opening the Network tab before you convert. Closing the tab removes everything.
